oil in Santa Barbara

Canie...yes, this is one of the largest seep areas in the world...maybe #1 or #2. My thesis advisor has been working on this, and that group has several published papers. They have a web site at Geology at UCSB. I think the natural seeps contribute about as much air pollution to Santa Barbara county as all of the cars (or, is it 1/3 of the cars?).....And, I lived near the seeps for 6 1/2 years.....the odor on the beach can be overpowering on a still day, or a light south wind. And, when I fly into Santa Barbara, I often see the, The problem with using part of this as an earthquake predictor is that part of it is a producing oil field...so they are messing with the pressures there....and, the part that is an oil field that is not being produced (because of politics) would be harder to monitor because there are no wells.....
