Re: glad some of my posts are of use |
Hi John, You and Roger as well as the other scientists have helped all of us understand terms, various theories and new discoveries quite a bit. I like Chris' reports he makes about the field work he is doing because all together with the various backgrounds you have it rather paints a more rounded picture of what seismology is all about. With the posted information that arrives here most of us use that to do some research to gain a better understanding of the matter at hand. Thus it kindles the flame to learn more, which is good for all of us. Our perspectives over the years have changed dramatically in understanding that some events don't mean a huge quake in on the way. Not meaning to be rude, but if one reads only Syz the general atmosphere over there is that the world is going to come apart at any given moment. But with a little education it's easy to see, it's not going to happen. I like that a lot. My observations during the past two months are bringing lots of questions to the fore when viewing so many earthquakes occurring on the west coast, but primarily from Baja to Oregon. Though every one of these places has past experience, I don't know why so much of it is occurring in such a short period of time. I don't know if there is any true meaning in this, or its just an odd set of circumstances. I was going to make a separate post on this note, but I'll go ahead here. We've had another small quake at the very northern tip of the Hayward Fault. This segment is one that brings questions as to whether the Hayward Fault and the Rodgers Creek Fault are connected. In this particular area where the following quake occurred its about the 15th one in the past two months in a place that had little or no history of quakes. So something is starting to happen, but one cannot determine what that means, if I'm right. We just sort of have to wait and see. But something different is happening and I'm noting it as I see it. I think that's probably what you would do? Is that right?....Petra A microearthquake occurred at 6:51:05 AM (PDT) on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magnitude 2.2 - duration magnitude (Md) Follow Ups: ● Re: glad some of my posts are of use - John Vidale 22:42:52 - 7/15/2004 (21954) (1) ● Ah...I see...n/t....thanks. - Petra 06:04:54 - 7/16/2004 (21957) (0) |
