Hello Donald, I like your weekly report, and even asked on this page that it be posted again. However, you say at the end:
"Comments or questions are welcome.",
So, what you said below deserves comment:
"Persistent Mild Solar Wind Inhibits Quakes of 6 or Greater Magnitude? Despite the Full Moon and the Perigee being on the same date, and despite the Perigee being the closest point of the Moon for 2004, the week surrounding the perigee (so far) has seen no earthquakes of 6M or greater. Here is the record of three-hourly Kp values and biggest quakes for that 24 hour (UTC) period:"
First, this is a bit of an improvement over a few months ago....you are saying what you are looking at, instead of something like the "red line in the middle graph" (not actually a quote) or something like that. But, I don't know how to read the numbers that you posted. As it is, it comes across as either meaningless or speculation, or both. You may want to explain why you think there should be any effect. There is probably a persistent solar wind all the time, except when something happens and it becomes strong.....

I really thought that there was an solar earthquake link....following Lowell Whiteside....and a well-known seismologist who had a mechanism for why this should be. But, then, over and over it seemed that nothing much was happening after big Kp storms...and then Roger looked at some of this scientifically, and there certainly was no strong effect, if any. Actually, Roger looked at severe solar flares....he has not yet looked at severe geomagnetic storms....where to find the Kp index for the last few decades was posted on this page but it was not followed up....but I think Roger must think he was wasting his time (although I found all of that interesting).
Chris
