Hi, I am new to this site, but as an elementary teacher who went beyond the class book, we have a geyser here in California that claims to both predict and register a change with earthquakes. It is the Old Faithful Geyser in Calistoga. I do not know if the owners have kept accurate records but I have heard it mentioned in the news from time to time.
As a teacher, my class explored some of the possible ways to predict earthquakes. They learned that the Chinese monitor water levels in wells to help predict quakes. I have been told, but have no verification, that the water table in the San Fernando Valley rose before the 94' Northridge Quake. The same rise in water wells was noticed in the Ferndale area before the big 71' Quake up there.

I wonder if oil wells are affected in somewhat the same manner?
