60,000 quakes-John V.?

I just went to the SCEC data center and called up all quakes between 1932 and this morning, for SW California and Borderland-between longitude 117 and 122 and Latitude 33.5 and 35. This was over 60,000 quakes. A lot of the earlier quakes, and some of the more recent ones, were just set at 6.00 km depth. When I bring these into 3D GOCAD, it will look like a big flat fault, but will instead be an artifact. The catalogue page is linked. John, I am under the impression that at least most of the post-1970 quakes are relocated....is this correct? (I could ask Egil Hauksson....).

The point of me bringing these into GOCAD is that we have 3D faults in GOCAD and want to see how they project to depth. I already have 10,000+ of Hauksson's and Armbruster-Seeber focal mechanisms (gives slip if you assume which of 2 perpendicular planes...; hypocenters just give 3D location. But, there are not enough of these in Santa Monica Bay or Santa Barbara Channel to make sense of complex structure....most are aftershocks of 1971 San Fernando and 1994 Northridge....and I am not working on those areas.

The 1977 through 1980 quakes are missing because of a data problem that they are working on....so I use some of Armbruster and Seeber's quakes for that interval....
Chris
