Another thought: In the past few months USGS has done some good things for us. One is to go to a week long listing, which fits a weekly publication nicely. They do publish a TXT listing of the NEIC board, but it is only available part of the time, and basically is a continuation of their list before the NEIC started.

My practice is to monitor the NEIC and other boards twice daily, and on Monday I mock up the Digest to see trends. I have noted that a number of sources for that board don't get their low magnitude listings in on a timely basis, especially in the Mediterranean countries. So this Monday mock-up gets outdated. Even using the seven day list after 00:00 UTC Wednesday, there will be corrections to make by USGS for the more recent listings. Thus I have delayed publication hoping some of these other listings come in, like I did Christmas. Even these were later revised, as you can see in the New Years edition. Revisions, of course, can occur in any number or name on that quake line.

Thus I caution professionals who monitor this board on something they should already know, and if they are publishing, it may be they should wait for the "completed" archives for a data base.

My self-appointed role is to be the best watchman I know how to be, with the idea of putting the global picture into a weekly perspective using my FIVE Rule, the GVN volcano activity reports, and what sense I can make out of solar reports.

Comments are welcome.
