San Simeon-Hosgri fault

Don, as I posted the day of the quake and the day after, I agree with you that the quake is not on the San Simeon or Hosgri fault-wrong strike, wrong type of fault. The San Gregorio, San Simeon, and Hosgri fault have separate names, but this does not mean that they are separate faults. I don't know anything about the connection between the San Gregorio and San Simeon fault, but I do know that the PG&E consultants interpret there to be a small (2 km?) right releasing step between the San Simeon and Hosgri faults near the seafloor. But, such a small step does not really make them separate faults, there may be no step on the deep fault, and they might as well be named the same fault. So, that is why I would have a tendancy to call them the San Simeon-Hosgri fault. I keep running into this problem-the onshore Malibu Coast fault I mapped offshore to continue and align with, and probably be, the Santa Cruz Island fault. And, I interpret the onshore Santa Monica fault to be the same fault as the offshore Dume fault (which in turn links back to the Malibu Coast-Santa Cruz Island fault).

Concerning accelerations-the high accelerations at Paso R. compared to San Simeon is consistent with the NNE-dipping fault-with the rupture propagating from NW to SE.
