Boy, was this a scary show! If you live in, or near, LA - I thought we'd be pretty safe when the SAF goes down in Palm Springs area - but I guess not.. (Long Beach) - as it appears the waves get amplified through the basin here..

And no info on the Puente Hills Fault in the fault index on SCDC..

The Program did say that the Puente Hills fault was capable of destroying LA buildings, skyscrapers, but it's average time between events is 3,000 years. And, we don't know where we are in the cycle.

Seems to me, some trenching work, or something, is in order to determine the risk.. but of course, that doesn't really tell you when the next one might happen...

Ahhh - a study below shows they have done more research on this fault..from the study:
Evidence from the new study, the first ever to probe the behavior of the Puente Hills fault, indicates that the four past earthquakes discovered along the fault had magnitudes between MW7.2 and 7.5 --

and
"What we've demonstrated is that, during the past 11,000 years, the Puente Hills fault has broken at least four times, generating very large earthquakes well in excess of magnitude 7, possibly as large as magnitude 7.5," Dolan said, noting that while the last event happened during the past several thousand years, it was impossible to say exactly when.
