John, I rarely look at the Geoforecaster page-I've looked maybe 4 times total. I doubt that Lowell Whiteside will be able to publish in a major journal unless he picks one detail that is his strongest case-theories of everything are pretty much unpublishable (if you make an assertion that a reviewer just can not believe, then all these red flags go up.....).

Regarding SCEC structural geology for 10 years-I was talking about something else. Part of this is discussed in Seeber and Sorlien 2000 GSA Bull (which was pretty much blocked by SCEC people for 2 or 3 years...."Santa Monica Mountains thrust is dead as a doorknob".... ). There are real problems with the model in the Dolan et al April 2003 Science paper-really significant problems. We are not going to write a comment, but Nano and I and others need to write a paper on the forelimbs of folds. How forelimbs really deform along the California margin is poorly understood. But, I have 3 papers to get out first-Kamerling et al. (Northern Santa Barbara Channel, Broderick et al (Palos Verdes-Shelf Projection anticlinorium and associated blind and surface faults systems), and my paper, on the Santa Monica-Dume-Malibu Coast fault. I may start mine pretty soon. Some of the material was in a paper that was rejected by BSSA. I tried to do too much with that paper....this one will be more limited.....By the way, I am a California Registered Geologist-for the last maybe 12 years-and I've never made a penny off of this-it has just cost me well over $1000 by now....Chris
