Ear Tone study

In one of my earlier notes, 20410, I stated that I was planning to try to do a more comprehensive Ear Tone study involving Ear Tones and earthquakes detected and occurring from the beginning of October, 2003. The plan was to prepare a presentation regarding that subject matter for this approaching conference.

I finished the preliminary work on that study earlier today. And the results are very interesting. They won't be discussed in detail at the conference because there is not enough time to complete the entire study. Some of the material might be covered.

The first conclusion is that the data processing procedures which I am using to compare earthquakes and signals such as Ear Tones look like they definitely work. That is not saying that procedures developed by other people to evaluate those types of data do not work. Multiple approaches to evaluating different types of data will often work with some scientific project.

A second, preliminary conclusion has to do with the earthquakes which are responsible for the Ear Tones and some of the other signals I am working with. It may be that quite often the signals have the characteristics of earthquake aftershocks! The earthquakes they are linked with could actually be occurring the day before the signals are detected. I thought that I might be seeing that with my earlier studies. But since I was not looking at all of the earthquakes which are occurring around the world I was not certain.

I am still not sure that this is the case. But it definitely looks like a productive avenue for future research with these signals.
