Chris Question

Hi Chris,

Perhaps you can answer this long held question I have. San Ardo, CA which is north of Parkfield has quakes at least weekly if not daily. It has perhaps 100 oil wells. But the quakes are occuring along some young mountains to the east of town, approximately 4 miles from the oil fields.

Does oil extraction cause earthquakes? And if so, does the effect of drilling for long periods of time create a situation which can cause moderate to large quakes, such as the 1933 Long Beach quake?
