M5.2 and Odette

There were a couple quakes yesterday listed in Mona passage between Puerto Rico and Hispaniola-actually they were north near the plate boundary (oblique (partitioned)subduction). Tropical storm Odette is passing over this area now. There has been discussion on this page about storms triggering earthquakes (Lowell Whiteside), and I have talked about the stresses associated with storm surges. But, in this case the quakes were before the storm, and there had been earlier, smaller quakes listed in Mona passage (earlier this week), so I would have trouble believing there was a connection-since Odette was pretty far south of Hispaniola when the quakes occurred. Speaking of weather-there was really serious flooding and high winds in southern France last week that did not seem to make the evening news here. And, in suburbia we had the winter storm-but only got 6" or 8" while nearby they got 1'-2'....Chris
