electron storm

EQF-what exactly is an electron storm? One of the graphs on www.sec.noaa.gov/today.html is electron flux. This tends to drop way down when a magentic storm is underway. Is electron flux ever very high when protons etc are not also high (I don't know)? Why does electron flux drop orders of magnitude down when the Kp is high?.

As for solar flares (measured by Xray flux) and earthquakes-Roger's simple correlation between the biggest 26 flares in the last 30 years and all M5 and larger, aftershocks within 5 deg removed, shows NO correlation (IMHO)(unless the whole 30 day period is shifted high-we'll have to check for that....). Kp is measured at the ground. I think the other parameters, like electron flux, are measured at satellites. So, if you are going to claim that they have an effect, you have to say how, and then demonstrate a correlation-a simple clear correlation.

What we need now, and maybe you can find it, is a list of the largest magnetic storms-high Kp. This should be done by both maximum level attained (Kp=9 is highest=extreme), and duration of Kp over, say, 6 or 7....

It is that that we need to correlate against seismicity. Chris
