biweekly tides

For the biweekly tides, which are the only ones he considers, I've looked at 10,000 events worldwide, and considered not just the height of the water but also the orientation of the faults and the stress tensors caused by the tides on the faults, and see nothing. Nothing is also the effect predicted by the current theories of friction.

In particular, students of mine have reproduced Jim's tidal methods for the area around San Jose and the Pacific Northwest, and find little or nothing.

The twice-a-day tides, on the other hand, are predicted to have a very small but non-zero effect on earthquakes, and this we have identified and documented.

I can't comment on any aspect of Jim's work except the tides, although I see no reason why the other data should work any better.
