You should just bite the bullet and turn your observation of angles into a probability of rejecting the hypothesis that your correlation is spurious. The math is nothing compared to pondering the gravitational gradients behind tidal stressing. Look up "binomial distribution" in Google.

The tides from the Moon is nearly identical for any pair of positions 180 degrees apart. The gravity from the Sun also, although I suppose you might argue that sunbeams as well as gravity matter in that case.

So how do your statistics fare if opposing Moon positions are forced to have the same influence?
