Having moved out here from Illinois, which is more disaster prone than California, I agree wholeheartedly with Petra's statement.

I would personally take the risk of a major earthquake over a tornado blowing my house away at 3 am any time. At least when you have an earthquake you are not picking up rubble from 20 miles downwind!
