John, get Lowell's OK and I can scan the figures and tables I was talking about and email them directly to you as .pdf files. But, the quality of my university microfilms print is not that good. I realize that you are interested in this problem now, and may not have time later, so maybe we should not make you wait to get get the thesis (but do get it). I think contesting Lowell's ideas is OK, as long as the contesting is well-informed and accurate. The non-scientists may not realize that this is how many of us work-it is part of the process. But, the level of rejection that many of us (e.g., me) have to deal with is really too much, and the odd encouraging word is sometimes helpful. It flames me when I see stuff I just know to be false being published (I guess examples would have to go to you directly, but I'll spare you unless you ask. Chris
