Don, I was underwhelmed by that abstract. I have never heard the term "igneous geosphere". You know a lot about earthquakes and California faults, but you may want to be careful what you quote. Just because it is in print does not mean it is of any use. For example, you can say whatever you want in an AGU abstract as long as it fits in the space and you pay the abstract fee. I think this is a good thing-makes you discriminate what is credible from what is not. I can't tell from the abstract whether the CME before Gujarat is significant or not.....there are periods when they are happening all the time...I'd like to see, for example, a plot of Kp index for the year around that earthquake, and all M>7 earthquakes plotted (just day of year on horizontal axis, Kp on vertical axis, with earthquakes marked). I am well aware of Lowell's work (I read his entire thesis. I think there may be some interesting relations, and he is on to some things. But, I don't accept everything as fact....
