Hi Steve. No. They all need to be watched. Red Hills has been indicating a change in stress for some time now, but so far no quake. What were seeing is a slow release of strain in that area.

Vineyard Canyon appears to be doing the same thing. The two popcorn quakes this morning in the Parkfield area are just to the north of the Vineyard Canyon strain meter. As a rule you won’t see strain from quakes as small as these were so this leads me to believe there still may be a moderate quake in the area. There could also be a slow quake going on at present time, which will not be recorded by any seismograph.

The faults in the Parkfield area is a complex system so it’s hard to say which fault is the cause of the strain build up. There are a number of thrust faults to the east of the San Andreas Fault as well as some transform faults to the west. It’s an area that keeps you on your toes trying to figure out what’s next.
