Shan and Nair's predictions agree |
Those who have visited Shan’s site today may have noted his prediction of a 5+ earthquake in Kutch, Gujarat within 48 to 180 hours. Most of you are probably aware that the devastating India earthquake of January 26, 2001 had its epicentre in Kutch. But most are perhaps unaware that P N Nair, whose work I’ve been following, lives in Kutch. Almost a week ago Nair predicted an earthquake there. When I spoke to him he was uncertain of the time and magnitude but he indicated something quite big. He also told me that there are some important new findings about the seismicity of Kutch which may indicate that this region is an ideal place to make predictions about the whole India region. I’ll try to speak to Nair later and find out more. Most of you are sitting in the USA where communications work. In India, outside the mega cities, communications are a nightmare during the monsoon. This year’s monsoon is a particularly heavy one in most parts of the country. Interestingly Kutch has had its first monsoon in five years and now excess rain is causing problems. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this may tie up with earthquakes?
