Hi Shan - Both Red Puma and EMSC show the same type of data from the same sources - they both are a data collection center for the world's earthquake networks - They were designed for seismologists to use to check their data and see what other networks are getting, not for the general public to use. You will always find the same data listed on both Red Puma and EMSC.

The A Automatic references are what computer systems generate - the location and magnitude information is only as good as their system programmers and their data.

When there is an M in that field, it means it has been human reviewed and updated.

These quakes appear on the lists moments after an earthquake - it takes time and humans to review and update the data. As noted on Red Puma's site:
NOTE: automatic locations are fast, but often not accurate and sometimes completely false!

In the case of your event that was noted, it was really in EASTERN CAUCASUS and not Algeria at all.

Here is Red Puma's complete disclaimer:
Please note!

This page is intended for seismologists at the various observatories. Its interpretation is not always easy and you may draw wrong conclusions by just reading the information as it appears here. Specifically, both locations and magnitude values can be substantially wrong even within an event group. This is often the case for automatic locations, but may as well be for manual locations, depending on the geometry of the recording network and the earthquake.

Please understand, that unfortunately we cannot answer any questions regarding this page by phone.

Further information about the concept of RedPuma can be found on and below the main RedPuma web-page with the URL http://www.seismo.ethz.ch/redpuma .

A good web-page to view the recent seismicity is the one provided by the NEIC in Golden, Colorado:
