Re: Intense geomagnetic storm |
Hi EQF. The current solar storm is both X-ray and proton. The proton portion of the storm can disrupt communication such as cell phones, satellite TV to name a few. There are a few who feel that earthquakes are also suppressed during the period of proton storms. The X-ray in a solar storm has been seen to cause quakes in areas that are associated with volcanics. This would be the Coso Volcanic Field in Southern California, Mammoth Lakes and the area of the geysers and in some cases to occur early, or be a little larger then expected and or in some cases both. There is a lot of debating about the affects X-rays have in regards to earthquakes. GeoForcasters had a prediction for a M>2.0 to M>4.1 in the area of Tonopah, Nevada for 05/31/2003. In this case the quake occurred to close to the window to be able to tell if the latest solar storm had any affect on this forecast. I doubt that it did, as I don’t think the solar storm had reached the earth at the time of the quake.
