Re: can you be more specific?

John, this is something that has been the subject of quite a few heated discussion here in the past over a long period of time. But there have only been a few since you started posting here. So you would not be familiar with most of what was discussed.

The answer is “Yes.” I could provide more details. And I do in the e-mail warnings that I circulate. But my notes posted here such as that one are intended as earthquake warnings rather than conventional detailed earthquake predictions. They recommend that earthquake forecasters around the world examine their recent precursor signal data to see if they might be indicating the approach of any significant activity during a specific period of time.

The following note was the last warning of this type. And had forecasters in China seen it in time then it is possible they might have spotted something in their own data which would have prepared them for their May 4 earthquake.

It is my opinion that our governments are responsible for letting their citizens know that they need to watch for an earthquake. And I provide more detailed information directly to them. I also feel that at this time each forecaster has to decide how his or her own data should be circulated. And in public notes, this is about as much information as I am prepared to provide. Also as I said in the past, I am hoping to install a more useful warning data page at my Web site which would list probabilities for different locations around the world based on the warning signals that I work with. Those are the data that I myself evaluate. But it will likely be a good part of a year before that Web page is ready if it ever does become available.

Finally, it is tremendously expensive for me to do this type of work because of the amount of time and other resources which are required. People should be happy with the data that I do make available considering they are free.
