Petra, No, I don't know what you mean when you say "Why am I telling you? I think you know." I assume you must think my posts are dry, as you have never seen me give a presentation, and have only met me once, in passing at AGU. I am aware that I may have a bit of a monotone, and have only been invited a couple of times to give talks, but generally my talks are not all that bad, as far as I can tell. Maybe sometimes I don't make the important points clear enough. By the way, I choose not to often go to meetings, and many of us prefer to give posters. In the case of the Nice AGU meeting, it was better in my case to give an oral presentation.
