Hi All. EQF got me to thinking about the number of major quakes that have occurred around the earth in the year 2001. What I found was that there 14 major quakes (M>7.0 M>7.9) and one great quake (M>8.0 M>8.9.) One of the other things I found was that there were some years the number of quakes didn’t make it out of the single digit category. They ranged from a low of 5 to a high of 23. There were a number of years that didn’t have any great quakes, but there was a year that had 4. Not much can be made of such a small list of quakes, but there doesn’t seem to be any pattern that would tell you where the next major quake could strike.
