A C1.5, on the www.sec.noaa.gov/today.html xray chart has 1/100 the level of an X1.5 like we had the other day. But, the Kp index, which I think shows the geomagnetic field near earth, was in and out of the "red" the last couple of days. The page will say that this can be due to other effect, such as coronal mass ejections, or favorably oriented coronal holes. So, I tend not to think that C class, especially low C class flares, can be very significant. What bothers me is that last year we had high X class flares, and/or higher Kp indices, and I could not casually notice anything going on with seismicity. I think Petra is on the right track to look at what limited are is subsolar, but it mighgt be even better to look at areas subject to geomagnetic storms at earth's surface (if such data are available).
