Earthquake triggering – Earth acceleration question
Posted by EQF on February 20, 2003 at 23:39:08:

This is something I have been trying to post a note about for weeks now. However, since February 8 I have also been trying to track an expected earthquake. It presently looks like it may be delayed for a few weeks (I hope). And perhaps there will be enough time to get this question answered before that earthquake requires further attention. I do not yet have a good location for it.

This subject was discussed in earlier notes posted here, in Newsgroup notes, and in a number of e-mail notes. I plan to discuss it in detail in an “annual” e-mail report on earthquake triggering which I am hoping to circulate to scientists around the world fairly soon. And since we now have a member of the geology “establishment” posting notes here I thought I would first check and see if a conversation regarding this might shed some additional light on the subject.

HOW SOME OF OUR EARTHQUAKES ARE BEING TRIGGERED

My data indicate to me that earthquake triggering is often linked with the positions of the sun and the moon in the sky. And recent studies are suggesting to me that this link may often be acting through the rapid changes in the acceleration of the Earth in space which take place several times a month as the Earth and moon revolve around their shared center of mass and as the Earth and sun do that each year.

The Earth is constantly being tossed around in space (in a manner of speaking) as a result of the gravitational pulls of the sun and the moon. We do not notice any changes here on the Earth’s surface because the overwhelming force acting on us is its gravity which remains a constant. But if you could see the Earth suspended in space it would look something like a water filled party balloon which is being stretched this way and that by those sun and moon gravity related forces.

QUESTION

My specific question is, “Do earthquake researchers presently have any computer programs capable of generating data for those Earth acceleration processes?”

Extensive Newsgroup and e-mail discussions regarding this have indicated to me that only one other researcher seems to know anything about it. And he does not appear to be doing any work on this at the moment. How can scientists explain how earthquakes are being triggered if they are unable to even generate the basic types of data that they need to be working with? The programs that I myself am using to generate those types of data were put together from scratch. It does not appear that they can be found anywhere.

Ocean tide, Solid Earth Tide, and Earth crust acceleration programs probably do not generate the right types of data. It appears at the moment that those Earth acceleration in space data can be obtained only from the use of MICA program Earth – solar system related position data. I understand that MICA was developed either by or for the U.S. Navy.

Finally, e-mail discussions that I have had with people regarding this indicate to me that this question will probably require a few exchanges of information before there is a basic understanding of exactly what is being discussed.
