Re: Quake forecasting on daily basis!

Hi Shan,

Something which I have said fairly often in the past to other earthquake forecasters is that it appears to me that the international earthquake forecasting community is presently so lacking in direction that it is up to each individual or group to get their forecasts organized and circulated in such a manner that governments etc. will pay attention to them.

As far as I am aware, the earthquake and precursor data which I have at my own Web site are not being checked by any governments etc. on a regular basis. If I want people working for some government to know that I think that an earthquake is headed their way I usually have to send them an e-mail note.

Assuming you are presently happy with the quality of your forecasts then I would suggest that your next step in getting better responses to them might be with experimenting with your Web page forecast presentation. At least some other forecasters including myself need to be able to take a look at a page full of forecasts and quickly tell if one is active for this or that date or location or when one has expired. Your forecast page does not presently appear to me to be organized to the point where people can do that.

That would also not be possible with my own forecasts. Special types of computer programs have to be used to process my precursor data. And my attempts to date to get other people interested in helping get those types of programs developed and stored on a Web page where everyone could use them have not had much success. As a result I am now considering just sending all of my programs to different governments and then providing them with detailed instructions for how to use them.
