That's great Chris! Thanks! I know Mark Legg - he's a frequent visitor at the LABGS (Los Angeles Basin Geological Society) meetings. I've talked to him a bit about these faults and him mapping them in a submersible. He did mention Tsunamis and that there wouldn't be much time to get out of the way of them. If there's a large offshore quake, head for high ground in a hurry! He did do a presentation of some of his work at one of the meetings. He showed video or slides (I don't quite recall) of the offshore area in Santa Monica Bay. He also showed some of the past shorelines that are present offshore. Rather interesting stuff. Below is a link to an abstract EARTHQUAKE POTENTIAL OF MAJOR FAULTS OFFSHORE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH WITH OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY AND LEGG GEOPHYSICAL. There are some other interesting abstracts at that same web site. Canie Follow Ups: ● Re: answered question - Canie 08:48:35 - 1/6/2003 (17726) (0) |
