I tend to agree Don - We should get plenty of warning - and it would even be rather nice (scientifically speaking) to have an 'event' in the backcountry there (south of the caldera above McGee Creek area I believe.)

What worries me is the prospect of a good sized quake (5+) on the fault at the south end of the moat (Not the Hilton Creek Fault) - from what I've heard from geologists, its possible that one quake (5+) could send the Mountain on its way with no warning.

I was out taking some photos along 395 last friday - I went as far as Olancha which is close to Lone Pine. I was browsing a real estate booklet for the 395 corridor. There sure were a LOT of half-million dollar homes for sale in the Mammoth area.... One would think they don't have any concerns over there. Just a bunch of ostriches.
