Wall to Wall At The AGU

Hi All,

I thought you might be interested in some of the events offered at the AGU this year which Don and I plan on attending. Looks like wall to wall education.

Friday Morning from 8:30 to Noon there is a lecture series with Dr. Paul Silver of Carnegie on precursory earthquake phenomena including earthquake prediction.

Saturday morning Roger Musson will be presenting his poster on historical earthquakes and then in afternoon another poster presented by Dr. Sarlis of Greece, in the Non Linear Geophysics section a poster on electric signals preceding earthquakes. +++ here (Varatsos is one of the co-authors, part 1 of the VAN group.)

Sunday will be Don's favorite, a poster presentation by Dr. Brigg on the Walker Lane Belt in Technophysics, and simultaneously Dr. Peter Haeussler from Alaska presenting a poster on the Denali Fault. (Later he will be the chair person moderating the oral session on Denali, however, the time slot is not yet known.)

Sunday afternoon a full lecture on Earthscope.

Monday brings a poster presentation from Sue Hough on Historic Earthquakes and a lecture series on magma activity at Mammoth Lakes delivered by Dr. Prejean.

The afternoon is wall to wall. First with a session on historic earthquakes with Roger Musson, Sue Hough and Bill Bakun and in-between we've got to fit in Mal Johnston on technomagnetics at Parkfield and back to the prior session so we won't miss Toppozada on seismicity along the San Andreas Fault. Whew!

Tuesday we begin with Dr. Jim Brune of Reno (Mr. Intuition) on heatflow along the SAF and Dr. Yahuda Ben-Zion on damage rheology & physics of earthquake posters.

The finish ends with Dr. Stefan Weimer of Switzerland delivering a poster on the 2001 Nisqually earthquake.

All in all it looks like a great line-up with many interesting presenters, much to learn and interesting people to meet. Can't wait, it all begins on the 5th of December with the usual cocktail reception in the evening.

Wish all of you could be there with us,

Petra & Don
