Take note of this particular quake:

NOAA 1882 09 07 0750 7.30 -77.80 40 8.00 MsNOAA 9F.. ....

In particular, take note of the location.

Now check out the link.
http://volcano.und.nodak.edu/vwdocs/volc_images/southeast_asia/indonesia/krakatau.html (it's long and may not work in link box).

It is a map of the Krakatau island indicating the date of eruption on 8/26/1883. Note that this area is in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. ==>This location is approximately located at -7.3 S , 105 E.

==>Now for the **** Big Shazzam **** (fireworks 'n stuff going off and drum roll....)

The 9 Sept 1882 Great Mag. 8 earthquake happened antipodal to the Krakatau location (within 2.8 degs) about 1 year before the big eruption at Krakatau.

What this suggests to me is that *Perhaps* energy which was part of the Mag. 8 contributed, by some mechanism, to weakening/opening the undeground lava channels under Krakatau. This led to pressure build up within Krakatau.

Note that 7 of the 12 quakes listed happened in August or September. This suggest that perhaps some external trigger event was the straw that broke the camels back causing the great eruption.

Perhaps this external trigger had something to do with a lunar perigee trip wire or...(fill in with favorite pet theory)...(I think solar would get a mention, etc.).
-------------------------------------------------

Yeah ...I can hear the skeptics talking ...it was just a coincidence...blah blah blah....

Just a few foods for thought,

3. Giant waves reached heights of 40 m above sea level, devastating everything in their path and hurling ashore coral blocks weighing as much as 600 tons.

4. At least 36,417 people were killed, most by the giant sea waves, and 165 coastal villages were destroyed.

5. When the eruption ended only 1/3 of Krakatau, formerly 5x9 km, remained above sea level, and new islands of steaming pumice and ash lay to the north where the sea had been 36 m deep.

6. Every recording barograph in the world ducumented the passage of the airwave, some as many as 7 times as the wave bounced back and forth between the eruption site and its antipodes for 5 days after the explosion.
