Of some interest is the X1.2 class solar flare which occurred yesterday while the area at 100E and 80W were anti-solar and sub-solar respectively. My understanding is that such events are most likely to affect regions along the equator in a narrow band centered at the sub- and anti-solar points and along the polar areas within several days of the flare. The Sumatera event seems to match this pattern exactly. This was the first X-class flare since August 30, 2002
when an X1.5 occurred. The flare may also have affected areas such as the coast of Pery.
