I guess I'd do a little research on the Iranian Jaya area myself and see how often they've had quakes and we didn't have any large socal quakes.

I can only seem to find 2 events of mag >7 in that area in any of the catalogs

I used anss and neic search forms - maybe I didn't search a large enough rectangular area?

After the 1985 event there were 2 events locally >3.5 from 11/17 - 12/31/1985:
1985/11/19 12:44:56.26 L 3.51 l 32.205 -115.500 6.0 C 132059 28 164 0 0 - baja area
1985/11/24 19:21:40.12 L 4.35 l 36.017 -120.879 6.0 C 132434 55 226 0 0 - northwest of parkfield

Maybe its just too early on a monday morning but I can't seem to duplicate the findings on the past quakes.
