Hi Canie,

Most would probably agree that this is in part a conversational bulletin board. I have also stated in past notes that I feel that it is an invaluable resource for circulating information to people around the world regarding the science of forecasting earthquakes. And there might now be some proof that others agree.

First, read my previous Earthquake triggering note. Then read either of the following news reports (same report, different addresses):

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/134547407_syzygy03.html

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/space/1601300

I am going to propose based on the content of the report that it resulted from my note which probably made its way to that reporter one way or another. It mentions moon – Earth proximity, sun and moon position, the equator, and hurricane Lili. And I believe that this EarthWaves bulletin board might be about the only place on the planet where those types of topics are all being discussed. I doubt that a reporter talking with geologists anywhere would hear about all of those things at the same time.

If the reporter did base his news article partly on my report without mentioning this bulletin board then I would consider that to be an example of good journalistic responsibility. This is after all a privately run board which is intended for people interested in certain subjects. It is not an international news service.
