Hi All. Just some trivia information about the recent quake in the Brentwood area. This is the first quake since 12/20/1991 to go above 3.0Ml+. This quake is shown as being a pure strike slip quake. The depth of 4.08Km is higher then the average depth of 12Km. The strongest quake to have centered within a 10 mile radius of this quake was a 5.8Ml on 01/24/1980. This quake had a vigorous aftershock sequence that consisted of a 5.1Ml that occurred less then one minute after the main event and a 5.4Ml on 01/27/1980. There were numerous M>3.0+ with some M>4.0+ that lasted until 01/29/1980. The quake in 1980 appears to have occurred on the Greenville fault where as the quake of 2002 appears to have occurred on the Midland fault zone. According to my map this fault is more then 1.6 million years old, but should not be considered inactive. The catalog used was the NCSN. Take Care…Don in creepy town
