OT/Health Update
Posted by Cathryn on August 30, 2002 at 20:04:47:

Hi All,

The every-four-week regimen of IVIG infusions were not working for my CVID. Every fourth week, I am sick as a dog, as I am now.

I was not scheduled for another infusion until next Thursday, but my doctor wants Marco to take me up to Stanford tomorrow for one. The transfusion clinic there is open 24/7.

The good news is that I'm now down to just 3.5 hr. infusions, not the twelve and thirteen hours some people have to go through.

It's an hour up and an hour back to Stanford, and about a half hour to check in and get the IV hooked up, but still, that's not all that bad. Eventually, I am hoping to have treatment moved to our local hospital and pray they know what they are doing.

Transfusions every three weeks were just not lasting long enough because I have a high metabolism.

I am usually down for a week after each transfusion. Some people have likened it to feeling like you have the flu that first week; others have likened it to chemo without the nausea and hair loss.

I hear that eventually goes away for some patients. I hope I will be one of them.

This does present problems in terms of vacations and travel. I have to be here every three weeks on the dot, or somehow arrange to recieve treatment in some foreign city. I guess we will just cross that proverbial bridge when we come to it.

Anyway, I wanted to update you on my status. Going back to bed now.

Cathryn
