OT: Tax Time in Gaarpadopolis
Posted by Cathryn on August 25, 2002 at 18:21:59:

Hi All,

I know this post has nothing to do with earthquakes, but I am taking the risk of posting it here because someone on an adoption group I run, GAARPadopt (Gracefully Aging Aware Refined Parents Adopting) who live in the mythical city of Gaarpadopolis (very close to Aptos, CA), is in dire need of help lest she lose her home to foreclosure.

Canie, please let me know if this breaks any of your rules, and I will refrain from this sort of off-topic post in the future.

Dear Friends,

One of our Gaarpsters needs help badly. For this reason, I am cross posting this message on other lists I am on, some not even adoption related.

Well, folks, she started out on Gaarp a little defensively, having been burned on another adoption list, and she sometimes posts provocative views we all don't always agree with, but she is one of us and has proven herself a mainstay of support and wacky stories here in GAARPadopolis.

Yes, I am talking about the one, the only Debby Fernandes (and Rosalie), and "NO They're NOT, as if it matters, which it doesn't and shouldn't.

To finance Marirose's adoption (and now her medical treatment), Debby had took a second mortgage on her house. Meanwhile, Rosalie got sick and hasn't been able to work in months. They are sinking, being just weeks from thrown out on the streets.

We on Gaarp are almost 700 members strong (after 40 or so uptight prigs jumped ship after my inadvertent use of the F word). D and R need #3000.00 minimum to hold on to their house, which is also home to Christian from China (who needed two surgeries upon arrival), and Marirose (who came from India almost completely deaf (unbeknownst to them). The whole family will need much expensive medical therapy and sign language classes throughout the years. And now Rosalie is sick with a disease much like mine, and so can no longer get out of bed, let alone drag herself into work.

Just $3000,00 would save them from losing their house by foreclosure.

If each and every family on this list sent Debby $5.00 (or a little more if you can swing it), that would literally save them from financial ruin.

Debby doesn't know I am posting this message, and will probably be hopping mad when she finds out. Tough titties.

But by sacrificing just one Happy Meal with milkshake and fries at MacDonbald's, you could make a world of difference to this family in crisis.

I know not all of you on Gaarp will participate, so I have cross posted this plea to other lists I am on, some not even adoption related. I hope they understand.

Please help out as much as you comfortably can. Enough of our small change can keep this family in tact and safe from financial ruin. And aren't issues like this exactly what GAARPadopt is all about? Support.

I am sorry if this post seems tacky. It is. I don't care; I just don't want to see this family of four lose their house because they chose to adopt special medical needs children before they knew that one of the parents also had a special medical need.

So please, fellow GAARPadoptians, and others, do what you comfortably can do to help this family in crisis.

Debby's address is:

Debby Fernandes
19022 Chemille Drive.
Lutz, Fl 33558

Thanks,

Cathryn
