Solar Update

We've been having a bit more fun with the sun...

The CME from the X Flare in 7/15 arrived 7/17 at 1600 UTC. The impact triggered some geomagnetic activity--but not a full-fledged storm.

For the second time this week, twisted magnetic fields above sunspot 30 have erupted violently. Today's explosion at 0745 UT (7/18) sparked an X2-class solar flare and hurled a faint coronal mass ejection toward Earth. Expected to arrive early on 7/20.

We had a good proton storm going from that first X flare - it has been noted that a Proton storm will actually mute earthquake activity - which may explain the quiet we've had the past few days. Its still a bit high - The end of a proton storm may bring a large event.
