Re: Earthquake triggering, earthquake precursors, and earthquake sensitivity

It does present an interesting focus - I do favor the solar-earthquake connection and the FFA rings appear to be a legitimate triggering mechanism -

I guess I don't pursue these things becuase I thought that others are already working on them - whereas I'm still a student - I'd be happy to assist in correlating these items - just tell me what to do!

It appears that I will 'major' in the area of structural geology (i'm not sure what kind of work would be available in that area... I guess a lot of site surveys...) - I haven't taken those physics classes yet so I don't know how well I'd do as a geophysicist. I don't think the answer to earthquake orediction will be found among the geophysicists anyway. They've pretty well chased all the options it seems and come up with nothing. Or at least have proven that the answwser lies elsewhere.

We all know you can't major in earthquake predictions! Or you can't tell the instructors about it...Back to that credibility issue. It does make a good sideline study.

I also favor the major the notion that 'hot spots' or the areas of flood basalts are a result of a large asteroid impact (near or opposite the impact site ) - areas like Deccan Traps and the Columbia river basalts. Versus the thought that the large basalt flows triggered the extinctions.

The Siberian traps appear to be the right age for the Permian extinction - maybe a good place to look for your impact site is opposite the location of the siberian traps about 250mya?
