Yea, Jawbone is a nice place, though I didn’t know that there was gold in those mountains. I went up there a few years ago, entered the fire road off Hwy 14 just south of the gas station with the motorcycle in top of the poll. Shortly before climbing to the top of the mountain, we cam around a corner on the road and saw a California condor standing on the road about 30 feet from us. It stood there for about a minute and then flew off the cliff. I have never seen one nor even knew they exist in the area. Boy what a rare site! We drove about 20 miles in and decided to leave when 2 F16 fighter jets flew by real close, the scared the you-know-what out of us. We didn’t hear them until they were almost over us. Then we went across the road a few miles up and dug for opals, didn’t find anything worth keeping, IE: no fire. Though we found a geode the size of a softball on the side of the dirt road (looks nice when cut open). And later headed up to red rock canyon. All in all, it’s a nice place to explore but finding anything worth keeping was rather rare.
