Japan Quake

Let's say a quake of M8 hits the East coast of Japan. Would this send a tidal wave across the Pacific to our West coast? and if so is there any way of calculating how big it might be?
Yo, anyone, best guess, best exaggeration, best lie, or even an intelligent answer will be appreciated.
