Don-What do you mean by "the Loma Prieta quake was forecasted"...What do you mean by "forecasted"? I guess it was published just before that that segment had a high probability for failure in the next 30 years. Two weekends ago I was talking to someone at a vollyball party in the Sierra foothills, and he said that Jim Berkland (sp?) had predicted it. But, I'd like to see the exact wording of that prediction-it may have fallen in one of his boxes of higher probability.....but I doubt it was a specific prediction like was being attempted here....

I'd be interested in Lowell's response to Costello and Tullis. I had seen that article before but had not read it carefully-I just read through it again quickly. By the way, the last (june) issue of Geology has 2 articles of interest: part of the San Andreas fault being made weaker by the Landers, Joshua Tree, Hector Mine, and Big Bear earthquakes, and the tidal triggering on the Juan de Fuca (already pointed out on this page (by EQF?).
