Re: Gas Lines

This could be a hazard assessment area.

One could study where the water supply lines for the fire department which cross fault lines (etc) (where they could be severed during an earthquake) are located.

Then one could study the supply piping for gas lines to check for a similar hazard (i.e. severed pipe lines).

One get then sell their property to remove themselves from high risk areas (high gas line breakage risk and high risk of no water for firefighting).

I think the Kobe quake in Japan taught everybody about how dangerous it is to have fire fighting water supplies that are pressurized pipe driven only instead of discrete distributed water supplies (on low ground 'quake proof' postions).

Anyway, they don't call CA the land of "shake 'n bake' nothin. First you shake when the quake hits then you bake when the gas lines ignite and the fire fighting water supply lines are also cut-off....

One solution is to petition the city managers to investigate the situation and take remedial action (and to advise people to get the gas-line shut-off valves installed). The potential for fire to spread would be especially high in some areas.

Just more of my $.02 worth (isn't coffee/caffeine great)?
