I'll stay away from most of this, except I am relatively sure that the Curie point is not where iron becomes liquid-but is instead a much cooler temperature where a remnant (sp?) magnetic field can be locked in in rocks bearing magnetite (like basalt on the seafloor). I believe that the Curie point is a bit over 600 deg C near the earth's surface/seafloor-this is not the same as saying that you can not have a magnetic field at higher temperatures: I am talking about the remnant magnetic field.......Chris
