Question For Lowell RE: Solar Effects

Hi Lowell,

I didn't expect to hear from you so soon and am very pleased you've touched down.

How about that contest huh? It couldn't have occurred at a better time. It was very exciting to have so many entries and an easy to select winner as well.

Now to the question at hand. In your short absense some of us here found we were taking different interpretations about what you referenced in regard to solar activity and earthquakes.

So, when time permits can you advise us about your thoughts on both parts of the solar data. Thus it appears solar flares I believe you said could be attributed to triggering quakes near the area of impact, but I am not sure what you meant in regard to the KP Index. This is where it gets real fuzzy.

We had a discussion about this which may have been archived already and we tabled it for your return for further clarification. So help us out.

As to our dear friend Don, he saw a lot of potential for a moderate quake in the Bay Area and though he had no pick cities or places in particular where he could forecast this moderate quake in Gilroy, he saw enough to know something was quite likely to happen. It doesn't make it a hit per se, but it shows good judgment in making a difficult advisory.

As for me my little ESP has been repeating a theme for about two months in thinking that once a moderate quake occurred it was going to be followed by a number of moderate quakes in various locations. Only time will tell if this pans out, but Oregon surely woke up from its quiet spell today with the quakes in Klamath and the other off shore of Coos Bay.

So glad you're able to visit again....Petra
