Dear Don,
I too, have been watching chantry Flats with great interest since it seems to be a strong indicator of upcoming events. Coincidently, I was hiking in Placerita Canyon yesterday (20 miles south of the San Andreas) and I noticed many fresh, medium to large-sized rock slides both in Placerita Canyon and on the road that leads to it. The Placerita Canyon Fault crosses the San Gabriel Fault in an "X" formation (according to the Nature Center models and maps)well, I have been told by very well-informed folk that Chantry Flats is essentially Mount Wilson. Well, by my calculations, Chantry Flats is about 26.25 miles south of the San Andreas and Placerita Canyon in 20 miles south of the San Andreas. It sounds like the same forces that are affecting Chanrty Flats may be causing the rock slides and rock breakage that we saw. (looked to be fresher than the Hector Earthquake might have caused - no dust nor leaves nor lichen on them - I mean fresh!)It will be interesting to watch. Beth
