Hi 2 cents - I thought maybe you had a type on that first post - quakes can originate at depths up to 700 km. not 70.

Earthquakes are catagorized as follows:
0-70km = shallow
71-300km = intermediate
and 300-700km = deep

90% of all quakes occur at depths of less than 100km and nearly all damaging quakes originate at a shallow depth.
