Lowell wins time part of first M3 contest

I figured out the time between the Mid Point of Petras time range for her contest entry, and Lowell's contest entry time. After 1:00 this morning May 7, we are closer to Lowell's time entry-so when the M3 eventually occurs, it will be closest to Lowell's time, and he already wins that part of the contest. We will see who wins on location. And,we will see whether the eventual earthquake is close to Lowell's time (it seemed unlikely at the time that it would be this long...) A M3 that falls within the defined limits of the contest area has not yet occurred, at least on the USGS map. Lowell evaluated the statistics of earthquakes in southern California, but used south of 36 deg N. I imagine the ongoing drought between 35 deg N and the Mexican border is also unusual. By the way-there is a pretty important series of geologic changes more or less at 35 deg N-the south end of the Coast Ranges, the N edge of the western Transverse Ranges and Santa Maria basin, the south end of the Sierra, the Garlock fault defining the N edge of the Mojave...
