Hi All. The Ferndale quake isn’t all that far from the epicenter of the 04/25/1992 Petrolia 7.1Ms quake. That quake was located at 40.37N/124.32W. The Ferndale quake is located at 40.60N/124.46W. That puts the Ferndale quake 28Km (18miles) north of the 1992 quake. The moment tensor solution shows the Ferndale quake to be a strike slip with down-slip component (vertical fault plane), which could be an indication that it was close to being a thrust quake. The Punta Gorda quake moment tensor solution indicates pure strike slip, or very close to it. The University of Berkeley provided the moment tensor solutions. The 1980 quake caused right lateral movement along the MFZ and is located to the north of the Ferndale quake. It appears the Ferndale quake is causing the same type of movement. It also appears that the Ferndale quake is inside the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Take Care…Don in creepy town
